#29 Sea or Mountains? Both!
After their day in the meadow, Micia had found a new place to sit quietly: by the window, with a postcard of the Dolomites between her paws.
“At the seaside, we dipped our feet in the water,” she said. “I wonder what you do up there.”
“You walk!” Lillo replied.
Pucci looked at the pointed peaks and tilted his head. They seemed to call for quite a lot of steps.
A few days later, they were among those very mountains, wearing helmets, little hiking boots and harnesses. Ahead of them, a short via ferrata climbed the pale rock.
Micia placed one foot on the first iron rung. Then she looked for the next.
“One at a time,” she murmured.
Lillo followed, his ears bobbing beneath his helmet. A little farther ahead, Pucci waited for them on a broad ledge.
Halfway up, Micia stopped. She was looking for another rung when Lillo pointed to something beside her boot.
A purple bellflower was growing in a crack in the rock.
“It got all the way up here without boots,” the rabbit observed.
Micia laughed and carried on. When they reached the resting spot, they sat down to catch their breath. Below them, meadows stretched between woods and tiny houses.
Pucci took their snack bag out of his little backpack. It was completely squashed.
“The biscuits had a difficult climb,” Micia said.
They shared them anyway, gathering the crumbs from the napkin.
“Well?” Lillo asked. “Which is better, the sea or the mountains?”
Micia looked at the peaks, then at her dusty boots. She thought of the turquoise water and the little red crab.
“Both! Though after that climb, I’d love to dip my feet in the water again.”
Pucci took off one little boot and sighed.
He was ready already.
