#26 A Trip to the Seaside with Friends
The morning after the frogs’ concert, Micia told Lillo and Pucci all about it. Then Grandpa suggested a trip to the seaside, and the three friends packed a picnic basket.
When they arrived, the water was turquoise and so clear that they could see the sand beneath it.
While Lillo and Pucci settled the basket in the shade of a pine tree, Micia rolled up her overall cuffs and went down to the shore.
A little wave washed over her paws.
“Ooh! Chilly!”
She took a step back, then moved forward again. Just then, a little red crab appeared beside a stone.
Micia stopped. The crab raised a claw.
“Hello! Have you been paddling too?”
She tried moving gently closer, but he stepped sideways. Micia turned a little, and the crab took another sideways step.
“Wait… this path never goes straight!”
A giggle came from the pine tree. Lillo and Pucci were coming to join her.
Micia tried copying her new friend: one sideways step, then another. A wave brushed her ankles and washed away her footprints.
“The sea has given us a fresh floor,” Pucci observed.
They stood still while the crab passed in front of them and reached his stone. Micia gave him all the space he needed.
Then Lillo called them for their picnic. The three friends returned to the pine tree, leaving a slightly crooked trail of footprints in the sand.
Micia looked at the sea and smiled.
“We’ve learnt a new step today.”
